Abstract

The aim of this project is to discuss the construction of the ProUni fellows' habitus in relation with their belongingness to private HEI. In particular, I will observe their adequacy strategies in two specific areas: the undergraduate degree and the job market. Assuming that there are significant differences between the accumulated capital (cultural, social and educational) of ProUni fellows and other students enrolled in private HEI. Also assuming there would be greater variation between profiles according to geographical region of HEI - I believe that the gap between fellows and non-fellows would be lower in regions where access of the lower classes to HE is more natural and where private HEI is more consolidated. In such a way this research aims to investigate and build a more detailed understanding of the conditions that produce and maintain, or not, the poverty of these individuals. That is, investigate through an empirical analysis, to understand how low-income population, facing equal theoretical conditions of access to educational opportunities, confers meaning to their situation of poverty or social advancement as a whole. Therefore, demographics educational census will be used. After the identification and comparison of profiles, in order to facilitate our analysis, I will conduct interviews subdividing into two main groups of respondents: ProUni graduates in Pernambuco and ProUni graduates in Sao Paulo. Thus, I will identify the differences between the habitus of two groups highlighting specifically the strategies that each group adopted along the path in the course of graduation, and to adapt to the labor market.
