Abstract

In view of the importance of canine leptospirosis in public health due to the possible participation of the dogs in the epidemiology of human leptospirosis, the aim of this study will be to use the dog with suspected leptospirosis as sentinel for environmental contamination with pathogenic leptospires in the southern area of São Paulo. In the study, urine samples will be used dogs with a history and a clinical diagnosis of leptospirosis, which will be obtained for evaluation of renal carrier status and blood serum, used in biochemical analysis and reaction microscopic agglutination test (MAT) using as antigens 24 serovars. The assessment of renal carrier status of Leptospira spp. it will be held in urine samples by leptospira DNA through the PCR technique and isolation in Fletcher medium. (AU)
