This project aims to train the student in practical and theoretical aspects of linear and nonlinear optical phenomena, and the study of photo-excited carrier´s ultrafast dynamics in lead-sulfide nanomaterials. Using an ultrashort laser system (< 100 fs), the candidate will investigate the ultrafast electronic dynamics in nanostructured materials by the light matter interaction. To this end, it will be necessary to set up a pump and probe experiment with temporal resolution better than 100 fs and operating in the near infra-red. This experiment will be used to investigate electron transfer between PbS quantum dots and layers of metal-oxide. This study is important not only for the understanding of fundamental science but also for applied science, specifically, for the development of third generation solar cells.
