Abstract

Linked to the ongoing Master's research, this project intends to investigate the relations between the financial market and education. In particular, it focuses on understanding the changes in Abril Educação's management board - started as a family business and afterwards (in 2015) sold to Tarpon, a manager of investment funds - as well as identifying the strategies involved in the negotiation of Abril's assets in the United States, since this country is responsible for most of the manager's capital. The selected period is between the years of 2011 and 2014. Methods involve a bibliographic review and participation in a research group situated in the University of Maryland and focused on the privatization of education. We shall also gather data in the North American press from both online and printed sources, institutional documents and carry out interviews with Tarpon representatives in the city of New York. (AU)
