Abstract

The proposed study will provide information on the specificity of relationship among Piper occurring in the Atlantic forest of São Paulo State and their herbivores and parasitoids. The adult insects reared will be classified according morphological and molecular data.It will also document specialist herbivore diversity of members of the genus through targeted collections and rearings. The general hypotheses is that Piper species have high intra- and interspecific secondary metabolite diversity, and this chemical diversity is related to both taxonomic diversity and specialist herbivory by Eois larvae.
