Abstract

This research aims the translation and a study of the first book (Inscriptionum Liber Primus) from the work Inscriptionum Libri Duo, by Renaissance author Jean Visagier, a Humanist who made several allusions to Latin Literature. The first book of this work contains ninety three epigrams which will be translated and later studied on the ground of its imitation to Classical Antiquity. We will search in these epigrams for traces of Latin authors, such as Catullus, Martial, Ovid and Vergil. We will also make a study about the presence of Jean Visagier in the XVIth century culture, especially among neo-Latin poets. (AU)
