Abstract Suicide is a public health problem that may be associated with a variety of factors and contexts. In Brazil, the occurrence of suicide seems to be directly related to situations of loss, frustration and emotional distress. In 2008 a research project was initiated for investigation of guilt, anxiety and depression in women who underwent induced abortion ( Project in 0075/08 ), approved by CAPPesq on 23/04/2008. The data analysis of this project resulted in three dissertations and four scientific publications. Considering the large volume of information obtained in this study, this new project proposes to conduct secondary analysis of information regarding abortion , depression and suicide risk. Thus, this project aims to identify the presence of suicidal ideation in women who received a diagnosis of miscarriage; evaluate and correlate depression with suicidal ideation; compare the rates of suicidal ideation among women who had spontaneous abortions and that who had provoked. The 150 womens who participated in the study had a diagnosis of abortion, whether spontaneous or provoked. For this study we will analyze the structured sociodemographic interview and the Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders (PRIME - MD), who belong to the database project described and the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) that belongs to the records of psychological assistance institution. Data will be analyzed using SPSS for Windows version 16.0. To analyze the association tables, the chi-square test will be used, applying the Yates correction for continuity. In situations where the chi-square test can not be applied, and, in the case of 2 x 2 tables, the Fisher exact test will be used. The level of significance will have the value of 0.05 (alpha = 5%). Hence, descriptive levels (p) below this value are considered significant (p<0.05). (AU) | |
