Abstract

This project aims to analyze the function of the actor and his interpretation model both on stage and on film. At first, we will investigate how the American school, specifically the Actors Studio, has created a specific methodology of interpretation for the actors, with greater projection in the cinema, from the research method conceived by the Russian theatre master Constantin Stanislavsky. The scope of this research in the American scene will include Richard Boleslavski (Stanislavski disciple and coordinator of The Theatre Laboratory in the US), Lee Strasberg and Elia Kazan (the Group Theatre and the Actors Studio founders, respectively). In a second step, the research will focus on the creation process of the "Prêt-à-Porter" project, coordinated by the Brazilian theater director Antunes Filho, whose research matrix refers mainly to the naturalistic interpretation of the actors in the cinema. The project, which started in 1998 and had ten series presented to the public over the years, became the main reference of research into acting work in SESC-SP Theatre Research Center. The Antunes Filho research contribution represents a major legacy for the new Brazilian interpreters, with an influence as significant as Stanislavski's in the formation of an entire generation of actors in contemporary film production. From this double route, from the theater to the cinema and from the cinema to the theater, the aim will be to investigate the actor's creative process and his means of expression in both areas, and how each feed this back to each other, either by their differences or similarities.
