Abstract

Melanoma is a skin cancer of the melanocytes and presents high mortality rates. The most likely etiological factor is solar radiation. There are several ways to classify the cutaneous melanomas: TNM classification system, classification by Clark levels and Breslow index. The preferred metastatic spread of melanoma is lymphatic. Melanoma treatment localized and of regional spread is surgical. While disease to many metastasis has systemic treatment, chemotherapy. Radiotherapy in turn is used in the adjuvant setting after lymph node resection, as well as palliative treatment to control symptoms of bone metastasis, and particularly central nervous system. Recently two new classes of drugs - target directed and immunotherapy proved significant effect with an impact on patient survival. Furthermore, early detection generated improvement in survival of melanoma patients in recent years. The world average estimated survival at five years is 69%, similar to the value obtained on Cancer Hospital of Barretos, where the research will be developed. The research will make the grouping of clinical data, demographic, histopathological and related to the treatment of melanoma for descriptive analysis of the melanoma patients enrolled on Cancer Hospital of Barretos in the period 2012 to 2015, calculating the progression and survival disease time free and analyzing the effectiveness of treatments in overall survival. Such data will can to be used as information platform for future research. The proposed timetable for the research requires 12 months and involves submission to the CEP, review of medical records, presentation of the Partial Report, statistical analysis and project completion.
