Abstract

The relationship between work and life of workers has been the subject of studies aimed at understanding how the various forms of work organization act on the thinking and the feeling of the workers. In Brazil, in general, health-work relationship is problematic, especially due to the deficiency of adequate living and working conditions. The aim of this study is to evaluate occupational stress among nursing team workers subjected to work in night shifts and the concentration of cortisol and possible association with occupational stressors. It is a cross-sectional study comparing workers fixed night shift nursing staff fixed day workers from the Clinical Hospital of the Universidade Federal de Uberlandia (MG) and Clinical Hospital of Ribeirão Preto (SP). They will use three instruments to collect information on stress (Stress Scale at Work), fatigue (Chalder Fatigue Scale) and sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale); Saliva samples will be collected from workers for analysis of cortisol levels. The data will be statistically analyzed for statistically significant association between cortisol levels and fatigue, stress and sleepiness. The project was submitted to the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Ribeirão Preto Nursing School. (AU)
