Introduction: Genomic and metabolomic studies may contribute to the elucidation of pathological mechanisms related to the development and progression of cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most studied tumors from the genomic perspective but with limited Brazilian participation. However, there is great potential in genomic studies related to breast cancer in the Brazilian population, since this is unique and multifaceted ethnically, presenting a large cohort of young women but with low parity thanks to the recent demographic transition. Our study group has built framework for the systematic collection of clinical data and biological material of women with breast cancer and has partnered with majors centers of cancer studies, Baylor University and The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), TX, USA. Objectives: To identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and copy number variations (CNVs) related to a number of genes potentially linked to mammary carcinogenesis in women with ductal or lobular breast cancer, estrogen receptor positive and HER2 negative; to compare the findings of previous objectives referring to Brazilian women with their counterparts obtained in American women studied at Baylor University, TX, USA; to determine a lipid and/or protein profile of the breast cancer samples obtained for this study relating to the molecular subtype of the same analyzed sample to develop a diagnostic method by mass spectrometry. Subjects and Methods: DNA microarray technique will be performed in 48 samples of breast invasive carcinomas and mass spectrometry (MS-DESI) for 20 samples of each main molecular subtype. These techniques and computational analyzes will take place in Brazil and the USA. (AU)
