Abstract

Diverse organic compounds have been isolated from plants of the genus Lychnophora and studied by our research group. Some compounds own biological activities such as anti-inflammatory and analgesic, as reported in the literature for several metabolites isolated from these plants, especially L. ericoides and L. salicifolia species. However, high molecular weight and high polarity compounds have not been completely studied for this genus, mainly due to difficulties in identification of these compounds using commonly techniques, such as ESI-MS. Thus, the use of MALDI-MS and MALDI-MS / MS technique will allow the identification of these compounds and consequently expand the chemical identification of compounds of this genus. In this way, the aim of this project is the characterization of polar compounds, along with the traditional analysis of medium polarity products from different species of Lychnophora, as L. ericoides and L. salicifolia and subsequent comparison with a possible new specie collected.
