Abstract

The understanding of how cancer cells are able to ensure a positive energy balance and associate it with anabolic processes is vital to the development of effective therapies against cancer. These facts make the study of the association of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) with the energy metabolism of particular importance, and are able to generate important advances in the understanding of these tumors, especially when you relate and compared these events with baseline normal and a cell. Thus, the general objectives of this study are to characterize and compare cellular energy metabolism profiles in different histological grades (pTis, pTa, pT1) of NMIBC to be possible to establish a criterion of clinical pathological significance and prognostic for the classification of these tumors . In this work will be used 20 tissue samples of the urinary bladder in men aged 60-90 years with or without a diagnosis of urothelial lesions, obtained from the Amaral Carvalho Hospital of Jaú-SP Urology Service. Five bladder samples will come from autopsies of patients without a diagnosis of urothelial lesions and / or urologic disease. In addition, the other 15 bladder samples will come from a retrospective study of patients undergoing transurethral resection (TUR) and / or radical cystectomy. Patients will be divided into 4 groups (5 samples each): Normal Group (without injury); Non-Muscle Invasive group pTis; Non-Muscle Invasive group pTa and Non-Muscle Invasive pT1 group. Next, the samples will be subjected to histopathological and immunohistochemical analyzes. From this project is expected to obtain greater knowledge on energy metabolism, so that these relationships can be an important tool for the diagnosis and management of patients with NMIBC.
