Abstract

Currently hearing impaired children have the possibility of early access to speech sounds through early diagnosis and technological hearing devices. Thus, it is possible that the impact of hearing loss is minimized. Among the impact factors that can be attenuated is the voice quality. The knowledge about the aspects that involve communication of hard of hearing and deaf children, including voice quality, it will enables a therapeutic process increasingly enhanced. The aims` study will be: Evaluate the vocal characteristics of hard of hearing and deaf children and adolescents users of cochlear implant or hearing aids and establish relationship with their listeners pairs; and relate the development of hearing and vocal characteristics. This research has transversal characteristic. This study will be attended by two groups: Group 1, hard of hearing or deaf children and Group 2 hearing children. The Audiological evaluation, Ear Behavioral Assessment and Analysis of Vocal Quality of both groups will be performed. Procedures as Audiological Assessment, Infant-Toddler: Meaningful Auditory. Integration Scale (IT-MAIS), Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (MAIS) will be administered in this study. It will also be used Multi Dimensional Voice Program - MDVP from Key- Pentax in order to analyze fundamental frequency parameters and perceptual evaluation of speech. Results will be presented descriptively and statistical tests will be applied in order to verify relevance of the findings.
