Abstract

The primary objective of this project is to request the BEPE for a six-month period at the Kunsthistoriches Institut in Florence in order to improve the conditions of accomplishment of my research. The research in question is an analysis of Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo's work, the Idea del Tempio della pittura, published in 1590, a work of major importance to the artistic historiography at the end of the sixteenth century in Italy. Studies approaching the Idea in monographic way, analyzing its artistic conceptions, its schematic and theoretical plan are scarce in general, and inexistent in Brazil, whence the interest in a profound research on this work. This ought to result in a Master dissertation that will offer in addition a commented translation of the text. The importance of an internship at the Kunsthistoriches Institut in Florence (from now on KhIF) lies in the necessity of dispose of better libraries for a more substantial research. Almost all the bibliography and documents needed to the first and fourth chapters can only be found at the libraries of the KhIF, the Villai Tatti (Florence), the Università degli studi di Firenze, the Braidense (Milan), the Ambrosiana Library (Milan), the Archivio Storico Lombardo (Milan), and other institutions which are specified in this project. Once at the KhIF, I will have access to the library collection and I will have the support of my international supervisor (Alessandro Nova, the Director of the KhIF) to obtain authorization to access the other institutions. Besides, the possibility of dialogue with a great specialist in artistic literature of the sixteenth century like him and with other researchers and students who investigate similar subjects will be very profitable. Furthermore, lastly but no less important, a visual research of the Italian art is necessary in order to get closer of Lomazzo's critical view. (AU)
