Abstract

Currently the production and consumption of fish has grown considerably in Brazil and worldwide. The Batalha river belongs to the basin of the Middle Tietê, São Paulo state, travels about 167 km and besides being important for 45% water supply of Bauru population, this river has a great biodiversity of fish. Given these facts the studies related to parasites and organisms that can cause disease in fish with high potential for cultivation and marketing, has been of great importance. Among the organisms that cause diseases in fish are the myxosporeans, which can cause serious economic damage, with high mortality ratios. Thus, it is intended in this study to evaluate the biodiversity of myxosporeans parasites of two species of fish - Prochilodus lineatus and Cyphocharax modestus from Batalha river, through morphological and histological studies with great possibilities of description of new species.
