Abstract

This project for the Research Internship Abroad program (BEPE-FAPESP) involves an eight-month period as a visiting student (from May to December 2016), to be spent at the School of Culture and Society (Brazilian Studies) at Aarhus University, Denmark, under the supervision of Dr Derek Pardue. The proposal is linked to the research I am conducting for the PhD Program in Sociology at University of São Paulo, the aim of which is to understand how some spaces of community participation and artistic creation in neighbourhoods on the outskirts of São Paulo make the emergence of new writers possible. The research abroad will afford me the opportunity to acquire information, knowledge and experience that are essential to my research, namely in relation to three aspects: a) the systematisation and discussions on recent publications on popular culture, and in particular the relationship between literature and the periphery in contemporary Brazil; b) furthering my theoretical and methodological knowledge through exchanges with other researchers and participation in seminars focused on my theme; c) getting in touch with research sources that help to strengthen the reflective and empirical aspects of my PhD.
