Abstract

Recognition of facial expressions of emotion is a complex task involving cognitive processes such as attention and memory, and a set of brain structures. It is characterized as the capacity to identify and distinguish between different emotions shown. The suitability of this recognition can be influenced by many variables, such as gender, age, education and intellectual capacity of the subjects. This study proposes to benchmark three different recognition tasks of facial expressions of emotions used mainly in the Brazilian context, in an attempt to provide a standardized procedure and standardized the sociocultural characteristics of our population, considering the variables highlighted previously in a sample the general population (N = 240). For the sample, they will be included subjects of both sexes, aged between 18 and 75 years, with varying levels of education. Data collection will be conducted individually, in different socio-cultural contexts, being applied in a single day: a questionnaire of identification, a cognitive assessment test and the three tasks of recognizing facial expressions of emotions. Use shall be for the analyzes the statistical program SPSS version 13.0. The demographic data of the sample will be analyzed using descriptive and parametric statistical tests. To perform the normalization procedure descriptive statistical tests will be used and the raw results will undergo a simple linear transformation to obtain scores Z. The level of significance in the study will be of p d 0.05. (AU)
