Abstract

The present project proposes to study the viability of sugar cane straw ash, a residue of sugar cane production, in the elaboration of alkali-activated binders of binary systems of blast furnace slag/sugar cane straw ash activated by sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solution . This ash was obtained by an autocombustion process and will be analysed by X-ray fluorescence (FRX); particle diameter and X-ray diffraction (DRX) in order to determine its reactive potential. After the characterization, the compressive strength of alkali-activated binder mortar with different percentages of slag replaced by ash (0, 15, 25, 33 and 50%) will be assessed in cureat room temperature. It is expected that sugar cane straw ash shows an improvement in the slag matrix in order to allow it to be used in alkali-activated binders, offering this residue a valorisation.
