Influence of obesity on the periodontal tissues remodeling induced by orthodontic mechanical force

Abstract

The aim of this research project is to evaluate the effect of obesity on rat periodontal tissues remodeling induced by mechanical orthodontic force. A total of 40 rats will be distributed into 4 experimental groups: control (C), obesity induction (O), orthodontic movement induction (M), and obesity induction followed by orthodontic movement (OM). The animals will be sacrificed 10 days after movement beginning. Alveolar bone loss will be measured by micro-computed tomography analysis. The proportion of the following tissue components: collagen fibers, fibroblasts, inflammatory cells and blood vessels will be determined histologically by stereometry. Furthermore, the gene expression and the synthesis of proteins associated with obesity such as leptin, visfatin, resistin, adiponectin, IL-1², TNF-±, and IL-6 will be evaluated respectively by qPCR and immunohistochemistry. All data will be evaluated, and then subjected to normality test. Then, appropriate statistical tests for comparisons between groups will be used.
