Abstract

This project aims to study the construction of memories of Elisa Lynch, an Irish woman who became known in South America because of its affective relationship with Francisco Solano López, president of Paraguay from 1862 to 1870. By being involved directly in the Paraguayan War (1864-1870), one of the main foundations of the Paraguayan national narrative, Elisa Lynch had rebuilt his career in several biographical works that relates to the different historiographical revisionisms about the armed conflict. In addition to seeking to explore these relationships, this research will also seek to reflect on the possible positions and political interests that lurk behind the exaltation or rejection of Madame Lynch in different policy scenarios of Paraguay.
