Abstract Considering the beneficial properties of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on dentin tissue, especially that related with matrix metalloproteinase inhibition, the present in vitro study aims to evaluate the effect of different concentration of EGCG and mechanisms of incorporating it into self-etching adhesive primer on adhesive's flexural resistance (FR) and degree of conversion (DC). For both FR and DC tests, six experimental groups will be formed considering (n=5) I. EGCG concentration: 0,01%, 0,02% and 0,05% and II. Incorporation mechanism: aqueous solution or powder, directly added to self-etching primer (Clearfil SE Bond, Kuraray). In addition, a control group, without any substance added to primer, will be proposed. Primer and bond will be mixed to obtain bar-shaped specimens (7mm x 2mm x 1mm) to be submitted, after 24 hours, to RF test in a universal machine, with a 0.5mm/min crosshead speed. DC of adhesive system will be obtained with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Data will be statistically analyzed considering its distribution. If there is normality of errors distribution and homogeneity of variance, parametric tests will be applied; on the contrary, non-parametric testes will be adopted, both with 5% significance level. | |
