Abstract

The hypothesis Baas-Becking (1934) has corroborates the cosmopolitan view of distribution of microorganisms for decades, saying that all organisms are in all environments, and the medium responsible for selecting them. Although biodiversity studies bring information on the occurrence of taxa included in the various existing phytoplankton groups in nature, studies on the dispersion and distribution of coccoid green algae are not written in this large group of algae. The Selenastraceae family, abundant in various watercourses, is considered with worldwide distribution and occurrence in various climatic regions: the tropics to the polar next cycles. The aim of this study is to obtain data on the distribution of genres that are molecularly defined within Selenastraceae as Selenastrum, Messastrum, Kirchneriella and Raphidocelis and employ molecular marker ITS to define strains of the same species and their distribution in the world.
