Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe and examine cosmopolitical dimensions in the current context of film production and training of filmmakers among the Maxakali, an indigenous people from northeast of Minas Gerais, with who I work since my graduation and masters degree. In these processes, which involve moments of negotiation, preparation, production of images and encounters that these images provoke, we can see how the technology of cinema is appropriated by them in resonance with their own ways of thinking and organization, and their relational processes. I propose as doctoral research an examination of how the shamans, the chiefs and also the filmmakers relate in this context, suggesting a close approximation between languages and actions in politics, in shamanism - including therein hunting activities and fishing - and in cinema. In this sense, I want to conciliate a discussion about Maxakali´s cosmopolitical actions - in which seeing and listening appear as fundamental skills for the establishment and celebration of encounters and alliances - with understandings of cinema as an aesthetic and political experience, and as a possibility of shared ethnographic creation.
