Environment light influence on the pregnancy period and impact in reproductive parameters: experimental study in mice

Abstract

Currently extensive workloads indoors workers are exposed to artificial light for long periods, especially in night shifts. Evidence shows the importance of the day and night cycle for hormonal balance, sleep disruption / wake cycle as restriction of sleep can cause hormonal changes, such as in the production of melatonin. Studies suggest that sleep restriction during pregnancy affecting the hypothalamic hormones cortisol and plasma is decreased body weight of females. However, the literature does not clarify the response of some reproductive parameters in pregnant subjected to exposure of artificial ambient light. The aim of this study is to assess whether exposure to environmental artificial light affects the reproductive parameters (born babies and fetal reabsorption) of pregnant females. The experiment will be conducted mice of mus musculus swiss webster, with 90 days of age and approximately 40g, mating occurs between the female and the male. After six hours checking the vaginal plug, the female will be considered as day zero of pregnancy. Two groups of 10 females will undergo two different exposure protocols: Group 1 (LN), pregnant females 12 hours light 6:00 to 17:59 h and 12 h in the dark at 5:59 h and 18:00 Group 2 (L ) females pregnant 24 hours in the artificial light. All females should be killed in 18 days of pregnancy and evaluated the parameters: weight of the placenta, uterus, number of pups born and fetal resorption, fetuses will be measured and weighed. The specimens (skull, chest and lungs of the fetus and womb) will be forwarded to the preparation of slides for histological analysis. Statistical analysis will be applied the "t" student, with significance level of p <0.05.
