Abstract

Women's participation in Brazil's policy has been growing slowly since the re-democratization of the country in late 1980. They are still minorities in public office, that because Brazilian society still follows the family model structured in patriarchy, where men acts in public spaces and women in the private space. For women it is for the "housewife role," while men are those who work to keep them financially. In 2010, in an unprecedented manner, we elected the first woman to the post of President of the Republic, Dilma Vana Rousseff with 56.05% of the votes. Currently (2016) it exerts his second term. He was re-elected in late 2014 with 51.64% (TSE). Nevertheless, women are not on equal terms with men in many areas, especially in political activity. Their presence is still much lower. Thus, this project through bibliographic research and content analysis study how Veja magazine and the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, the country's largest circulation media outlets, have structured the first woman elected to the office image more important in Brazil.
