Abstract

In our previous results, maize-straw and Azospirillum brasiliense inoculant presented as potential attenuators of N2O and CH4 fluxes on maize rhizosphere. Plant residue and other organic amendments possess several advantages that stimulate microbial activities and diazotrophic bacteria are known to have other functions and not only nitrogen-fixation. Perhaps, other microorganisms can be useful to regulate GHG emissions. Therefore, we propose to isolate microorganisms with beneficial functions to reduce GHG fluxes from maize rhizosphere soils, Amazonian Dark Earth and rhizosphere soil of maize crops cultivated at Amazon Rainforest areas of FAPESP-NSF Project (2014/50320-4), and conclude the tasks of FAPESP project (2015/08564-6). This project will be a collaboration between the Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and the Soil EcoGenomics Laboratory (CA, USA), under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Siu Mui Tsai and Prof. Dr. Jorge L. M. Rodrigues for metagenome and transcriptome analyses and isolation of microorganism under hypoxic conditions, and preparation of manuscripts. (AU)
