Abstract

Sorghum is a forage grass adapted to tropical conditions and presented high biomass production. No tillage system has been studied for vegetable crops, being forage crops important for rotation or straw yield in this system. The benefits of introducing forage crops in the vegetable cropping system are reduction of diseases and pests occurrence, especially soil diseases, weed control and increase the organic matter content. However, studies are important to verify the potential of forage species and straw yield management for vegetables cropping. The objective of this project is to evaluate Sorghum managements for lettuce cropping. The treatments will be consist of three Sorghum dried (28, 42 and 56 days after emergence), for different straw yield, and two managements (mowing and incorporated after dried). Conventional tillage will be the treatment control. The experiment design will be randomized blocks with four replications, in factorial arrangement. Two lettuce cycles in the same coverage and soil management will be evaluated, as well as the impact of management systems on crop yield, weed control, straw decomposition, temperature and soil moisture. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance and means were compared by Tukey test and regression. (AU)
