Abstract

The hypothalamus-pituitary-gonads axis is responsible for neuroendocrine regulation of reproduction, by the action of GnRH, LH and FSH hormones. Kisspeptin, produced by Kiss1 neurons localized in hypothalamus - more specific in arcuate (Arc) and Anteroventral Periventricular nucleus (AVPV), acts together with GPR54 receptor as a exterior signals processor for reproduction, modulating GnRH pulses. It is well known that the body weight changes affect this signalization and consequently impairs fertility. Literature describes the monosodium glutamate treatment as a protocol to induced obesity due to neuronal destruction of hypothalamic neurons locate at the Arc, been one of the consequent effects reproductive disorders. This project aims to determine if those reproductive disorders occurs due to damage to Kiss1 neurons.
