Period of exposure to maternal depression and social vulnerability in school children

Abstract

The period of exposure of children to maternal depression has been considered in the literature as relevant condition in the developmental outcomes of these children, though still little explored. In this context, this study aims to compare and correlate the behavioral profile, intellectual level and social vulnerability indicators of children exposed early to maternal depression with other later exposed to this chronic adversity. It will be used database (authorized) consists of 50 dyads mothers-children, mothers between 25 and 45 years with recurrent depression, and children aged seven to 12 years. The dyads comprise two groups: G1, with children exposed early to maternal depression (n=23) and G2, with children later exposed (n=27). Data collection were used: SCID (diagnostic evaluation of mothers), IPVS(evaluation of social vulnerability for public management instrument), Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices Test (evaluation of child intellectual level), General Questionnaire (sociodemographic data) and SDQ (children's behavior assessment). Data will be presente by descriptive and inferential analysis, comparing averages of G1 and G2 in the various instruments, in addition to examining their correlations, to meet the objectives of the study.
