Abstract

Polyimides are a class of polymers whose main characteristic is a high thermal stability, associated to a series of other desirable properties for applications in electronics, microelectronics and aerospacial sectors. The objective in this research project is to synthesize polyimides copolymers based in a diamine, 4,4'-(9-fluorenylidene) dianiline (FNDA), a phthalic dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-bipheniltetracarboxilic acid dianhydride (BPDA), and a naphthalic dianhydride, 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxilic acid dianhydride (NTDA), aiming to combine the properties of the first (solubility and thermomechanical processability) and the second anhydride (high thermal stability). For this purpose, a two-step route in solution will be used, involving an intermediary, the polyamic acid salt (SAP), which is already being used in the research group. The chemical structure will be determined by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In the case of soluble polymers, the molar mass and its distribution will be determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). In addition, the polymers will be characterized by X-ray diffraction (DRX), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis, tensile test and determination of dielectric constant. The determination of the properties of the polymers will allow the establishment of structure-property relations, besides the evaluation of potential applications. (AU)
