Abstract

Research about cities interference in the close-to-surface atmosphere's composition back to the nineteenth century. Considerations about local climatic changes by city and agriculture are presented in urban climate pioneering studies. A huge environmental commitment is generated by this framework, reflecting populations' living conditions. Population's thermal comfort and health and human performance are influenced by climate alterations. Thermal and hygrometric discomforts are naturally provided by tropical environment, and require adaptation via indoors air conditioning, influencing the higher energy intake, besides the inaccessibility by the population. From meteorological conditions and urban characteristics derives the urban heat island effects which subjects extreme spaces (OKE 1987). Urban climate is comprehended as the determined space climate and its urbanization (MONTEIRO 2003), without a rigid scale to this phenomenon visualization. In this sense, important changes in their past conditions related to urbanization are shown by medium and small cities displaying facilities for a qualitative climate research. Better differentiation of their intra-urban environments is allowed by the small spaces, with intervention and urban planning possibilities especially in the new expanding. This research aims to investigate the tropical environmental cities' urban climate located at western São Paulo state (Alvares Machado, Santo Anastácio and Presidente Venceslau), focusing on thermal field, considering geoenvironmental and geourban conditions in autumn and spring episodes. Despite the proximity between cities and considering the atmospheric regional circulation, this research hypothesis presupposes that their answers to the atmospheric systems actuation are different because they show climatic peculiarities which depends of geoenvironmental (landform, landform orientation, vegetal cover) and geourban (land use and occupation, structure, morphology and urban dynamics) attributes. Urban Climate System (MONTEIRO 1976) is this research theoretical-methodological basis, highlighting the thermodynamic subsystem perceived by man through thermal comfort. Intra urban environmental differentiation will be provided by geoenvironmental and geourban characterization, subsidizing primary data acquisition which will be done by fixed weather stations, mobile transects, thermography, allowing the diagnostic of possible thermal anomalies taking as reference rural representative areas. Data analysis will privilege the isotherm letters development, spatial-temporal panels, climatic modelling based on statistics to results exhibition. The research aims to diagnose urban climate related problems such as heat islands, and to propose mitigation measures to assuage its effects for the authority of the three cities in the analysis' universe.
