Abstract

Inspired by the change in the configuration of global economic activities, this work seeks to articulate the concepts of global cities and global commodity chains, through a study of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo and its insertion in the oil chain, overflowing also to analyze the role of these cities as gateway cities. This project is linked to international thematic project entitled "Gateway cities and Their hinterland: global cities from the global south the nodes in global commodity chains", developed in cooperation with Brazilian and German researchers. To meet the proposed objectives, a methodology based on network analysis, interviews and data collection on predetermined bases will be used.
