Abstract

Corticosteroid therapy in pregnancy has been used for about three decades and has shown some success in reducing the mortality of newborn preterm, with less than 34 weeks, the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome. Despite these recognized immediate benefits that come from corticosteroid therapy, it has been reported that, after a follow-up of 30 years, people who were born to mothers who received betamethasone as corticosteroids during pregnancy, develop more resistance to insulin in the future. There is evidence that changes in energy metabolism and fat may be mediated by miRNA. Objective: evaluate women who used or not corticosteroids during pregnancy and correlate the results with possible changes in sugar metabolism and fat and its future repercussions. Subjects and Methods: For the study women will be selected who underwent ultrasonographic monitoring in CAISM during pregnancy in another study (WHO fetal growth study) and who did not have any disease previously and they did (15 women) or not (30 women) use of corticosteroids in pregnancy, totaling 45 women. Once identified, the women will be addressed and invited to participate through a telephone contact, when to schedule a visit to the service. In this contact the woman will receive additional information, you must sign the informed consent form and will then be made collect blood of these women to perform a glucose tolerance test (GTT), lipid profile, insulin dosage and extraction of microRNA. Data analysis: Data analysis will be performed by subgroups: women who were treated (Treated Group) and not treated with corticosteroids during pregnancy (control group). The initial analysis is to compare the mean (± SEM) values relative to fasting glucose, area under the curve in GTT, LDL, TG, fasting insulin and values of HOMA-IR index of women's groups who received and not received corticosteroids during pregnancy. For analysis of these comparisons will be used Student t test unpaired and the level of significance will be p <0.05. (AU)
