The project proposal is to deal with the subject of sound in the documentary film. I have especial interest in auteur documentary films in which the body, the action, the self, the apparatus and/ or the narrative resources of the director come to occupy, from the visual and sound take and editing, an evident and decisive dimension in the narrative. The productions that elapse in these trends begin to thicken in the 1970's and 1980's. Focusing on these decades and trends, I aim to analyze the sound of films that are understood as autobiographical, self-reflexive, performative and essayistic. I take for granted that from the 1970s, a new configuration of the sound aspects of documentary film arise decisively to these emerging narrative perspectives. In this sense, I am interested in investigating how the dislocations and new sound practices are engaged and engage such perspectives. Based on a selected filmography and on the sound dimension, I intend, therefore, to develop a theoretical and analytical framework that can deal with the various insertion trends of the self in the documentary film narrative, which occupies significant portion of the production of documentary film post 1960's. Thus, I intend to contribute to the documentary film and film sound studies, especially in its approach and theoretical and historiographical intersection, broaching a range of documentary films that are on the agenda and still leave their mark on theoretical framework and filmic practice.
