Abstract

Social mother is a profession regulated by the lay number 7.644, from 1987. The major goal of that job is to provide a home with a family reference to at most ten children in different ages and stages of development who will live together. It is a complex job generally occupied by women. To take this job, the person needs to live in the same home with those kids, to take care of different kinds of children, to be constantly trained and to have constant technical support. This study aims to understand how the social mother who has this job from at least 2 years feels about that job, and how that job changes the life of the social mother through the experience of living with those children in a home that intend to be as similar as regular family home. This field research will be made in two different institutions, to contemplate more than one kind of social mother experience. The social mothers will be studied by interviews, documents, observation, and life style. As the foundation of the research, the historical-cultural psychology from Vygotsky, the Subjectivity Theory from Gonzalez-Rey and dialectics studies about people and their relationship with their jobs will be studied. This paperwork intends to get close to the universe of the person who will be studied, to see, from their point of view, their lives. (AU)
