The present project aims to synthesize silica nanoparticles (SiO2NPs) and study the interaction between these nanoparticles and the albumin and globulin proteins, separately. This study will be carried out in different experimental conditions such as pH, ionic strength, temperature, and protein concentration. These are proteins present in human plasma and, for this reason, the interaction of both particles with silica NPs will be also investigated because this is an important feature regarding their possible use in controlled-release formulations. We intend to use pristine and modified silica NPs, the latter following protocols such as pegylation or surface modification to render them corona-free. These NPs and their complexes with proteins will be characterized by light and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), nitrogen adsorption/desorption, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The thermodynamics of their interaction will be investigated by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). (AU)
