Abstract

This research proposes a survey of information regarding the existing cultural and recreation facilities within the perimeter defined by the "Corredor Cultural" Project (1979), in the downtown area of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is intended to comprehend how the Project relates to those facilities and to their buildings, once the city has experienced a series of preservation, revitalization and reestruturation processes. The research is bound by the Project "Área central do Rio de Janeiro: memória, patrimônio cultural e participação social, 1960-1992", financed by FAPESP, process number 2014/05513-9, under the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Flavia Brito do Nascimento. The survey will consist on information regarding the location and characteristics of every existing facility, its main uses, financing and maintenance agents, establishing the processes of acquisition, preservation, restoration and the current uses of the buildings. The survey will involve the making of maps of the defined area, in addition to tabulation of the facilities, under standards previously established. The aim is to achieve a general comprehension of the role played by the Project "Corredor Cultural" and its consequences concerning the area's urban transformations, and their relationship to the setting of those equipments. For the execution of this survey, different references will be consulted, such as fotographic images, textual documentation, articles and reports.
