Abstract

One of the biggest crises relationship between Brazilians and Portuguese were revealed in the first decades of the XIX century, especially from colonization measures taken by the Cuts of Lisbon. Against with this intolerant attitude, even the most enthusiastic supporters of the idea of a Luso-Brazilian empire realized that the Lusitanian, holders of numerous privileges and important positions, have become synonymous with traitors and absolutist, resulting in a declared xenophobia against the Portuguese resident in Brazil. However, about one century after the Brazilian independence, occurred on both sides of the Atlantic to develop a historical interpretation completely opposite, prioritizing the "cultural unity" and all those elements that indicate the call value "Luso-Brazilian civilization." In this sense, the historical and political writings of António Sardinha and Jackson de Figueiredo should be highlighted, because they represented a great deal of definitive reconciliation between the two peoples and consequently of national self-legitimation, by electing liberal ideology as responsible for the disruption and peripheral tragic fate of both countries. For this reason, this project aims to analyze, from the perspective of transnationality, the intellectual trajectory of two men who saw and protruded as the true heroes of the counterrevolution, the legitimate representatives of a grandiose project guided by the logic of Luso-Brazilian civilization. Especially since both intellectuals produced an important theoretical reflection that later would be incorporated by authoritarian and reactionary political movements. While showing is bent on breaking the said mentality "backward" and promote "specific" modernity, based on a forgotten past and / or marginalized by official historiography.
