Abstract

This research aims to study the history behind the North-American comics. In order to analyze the battle between Batman and Capitan America occurred in Marvel vs DC (1996) published in Brazil as Marvel vs DC: o Conflito do Século, 1996. We are going to base our study from two perspectives: Cultural Studies and American Studies focusing on the notion of Representation, Significant Practices and the composition of Identity. The comics depict the winning of The Dark Knight over Capitan America, decided through an online voting. Moreover, it will be necessary to comprehend the American society in five periods: Declaration of Independence (1776), Civil War (1861-1865), World War I (1914-1918), Great Depression of 1929 and World War II (1939-1945) to point out the identity and symbology presented in the society and the heroes mentioned here.
