Abstract

Beetles of the sub-families Scolytinae e Platypodinae (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) are of economic and ecological importance, due to the high damage inflicted to plants they attack and its high species diversity. Ethanol is a known volatile released by diseased or stressed trees, the preferred hosts of Scolytinae and Platypodinae, and these beetles use this kairomone to located and select plant breeding material. However, even though the concentration of released ethanol is very important in this selective process, few are the studies that approach this factor. The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of ethanol concentration on the attractivity of these beetles in intercept flight traps in a cerrado vegetation fragment. We intend to test ethanol concentrations at 0% (water) and 96% (concentration traditionally used in Brazil), 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. (AU)
