Abstract

In this project we intend to prepare and characterize a series of complexes of ruthenium(II) cis-[Ru(phen-L)2(Apy)2]2+ type, containing in the coordination sphere of 1,10-phenanthroline ligands with the substituent 5-methyl and 4,7-diphenyl and aminopyridines and investigate the effect and influence of substituent on the spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of complexes. The planned system presents individual characteristics that can simultaneously act as a diagnosis in the fibrillation process of Tau protein and as a therapeutic target by monitoring the therapeutic response by changes in the luminescent properties of the complex. These characteristics include luminescence in the red region attributed to the metal fragment {Ru(phenL)2}2+ and the role of the aminopyridines in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. (AU)
