Abstract

Due to the limited number of diagnostic morphological characters and adaptive convergence in some taxa are found complex of cryptic species. In this context, molecular analyzes have been widely used to delimit species in order to evaluate the relationship between and within morphotypes. Demographic and geographic factors have great influence on the distribution and connectivity among animal populations. Bionomic features such as reproductive mode, also has an important role in patterns of gene flow between populations. Studies involving all these factors are scarce and, to date, none have been carried out with nemerteans and polychaetes, ecologically important and widely distributed groups. Investigate the gene flow patterns in species presenting various dispersers capabilities is essential to better understand the history of each population and species. The species Nemertopsis bivittata (NEMERTEA: ENOPLA) and Perinereis ponteni (ANNELIDA: POLYCHAETA) are widely distributed along the Brazilian coast and have different types of development, so it may be interesting models for population studies, as well as verifying the presence of cryptic species. Thus, this study aims to analyze how the reproductive mode and environmental distribution influence the population structure and gene flow patterns N. bivittata (direct development)and Perinereis ponteni (indirect development), and to evaluate the validity of these species. The study also aims, through the use of models obtained in another study, discover the role of ocean circulation in the isolation of these populations. Finally, genetic structure analysis will be completed by evaluating the gene expression in regions that may be under selection related to environmental adaptation. Therefore, collections will be held along the Brazilian coast, and genetic analyzes will be executed through GBS techniques (Genotyping-by-sequence) and qPCR (real-time PCR).
