Abstract

In the last twenty years we have seen substantial changes dizzy place that is given to people, cultures and African origin traditions in the formation of Brazilian society, as in the way national identity is drawn up in debates and discussions dedicated to the research of race relations nowadays. These transformations tread a path that reflects a new look at the presence of these peoples and cultures often informed and influenced by a concept that has gained prominence in the discussions both in academia and in militancy: the African Diaspora. The main objective of this research is to analyze, from a comparative perspective, the impact of potential theoretical, epistemological and discursive shifts the notion of African diaspora produces the debate on race in Brazil. It is proposed that sense, a comparative study of the Department of African and African American Studies, Harvard University (notably the WEB Du Bois Research Institute) and the Afro-Brazilian Studies Center of the Federal University of São Carlos. The specific objective is to comparatively analyze the productions / publications in journals of their nuclei in the period 1991-2014, seeking to note the similarities and especially the differences in the way these departments and centers conceive the presence and African influence their respective national societies. The project therefore aims to investigate how emerging and articulates, and theoretical discourse, the notion of African diaspora in several productions and performances of these institutions. (AU)
