Abstract Cooperation project between CEMPAS (Medical and Research Center for Wild Animals), Botucatu School of Veterinary Medicine (FMVZ - UNESP) and the Service of Hematology / Blood Center Division of the Botucatu Medical School (FMB - UNESP), to investigate the presence of erythrocyte antigens belonging to human ABO (antigens A, B) and Rh (D antigens, C, E, c, e) blood groups in erythrocytes of 10 Tufted Capuchin monkeys (Sapajus apela) and 10 Howler monkeys (Alouatta guariba). Additionally, the compatibility blood test (cross-matching) between the studied animals (intra and inter-species) will be performed. The objective is to compare the erythrocyte phenotype of the studied animals with the previous studies on erythrocyte phenotyping of other humans and non-humans primates. This study may contribute to improve the transfusion practices in wildlife, particularly in Brazilian primates assisted in the specialized reference centers. Indirectly, may contribute to the preservation of species at risk of extinction. | |
