Abstract

The investigation of the collective dynamics in disordered systems is a very active research field since the beginning of modern science. Some ionic liquids are good glass formers and excellent model systems for studying complex dynamics. We have investigated the phase behavior and structure of these ionic liquids by differential scanning calorimetry, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction techniques at low temperatures and high pressures. However, we have obtained only indirect dynamical information about these disordered systems by low-frequency Raman spectroscopy. In this project, we propose the direct dynamical study of glass forming [NTf2]based ionic liquids at different phases at low temperatures (100K - 300K) and high pressures (1 - 7000 bar) by Quasi-elastic Neutron Scattering, Inelastic Neutron Scattering, and Inelastic X-Ray Scattering techniques, aiming to understand the relation between the dynamical processes and the low temperature phase transitions.
