This project aims to highlight and analyze the positions and the confrontation / conflict between different groups of actors who take cultural heritage as a weapon and arena to their empowerment in the territory of Pontal do Paranapanema (West of São Paulo State), especially from the study cases of recognized heritage sites in the municipalities of Alvares Machado and Presidente Venceslau. The potentiality of conflictual dynamics of the patrimonial policy as a subsidy towards the betterment of territorial management with a view to sustainable development will also be analyzed. The study will be developed in an interdisciplinary perspective, involving presuppositions of Sociology and Geography. In dialogue with the methodology of Integrated Territories Management (GIT), seeks to assess the potential of patrimonial protection policies for the improvement of territorial development policies in the Pontal do Paranapanema. It is proposed the use of techniques and methodologies to landscape study and built cultural heritage, officially recognized or eligible for recognition in the municipalities. In this direction, the inventory of assets and sites, recognized or likely to official recognition, are important tools for understanding the reinterpretation of places and landscapes and starting point for taking depositions, documentary and other significant buildings research. The systematization of data from this research will serve both for the production of academic papers as subsidies to be submitted to the territorial actors in the context of territorial development collegiality, also contributing to the consolidation of research groups "Ruralidades, Habitat e Cidadania" and "Laboratório de Arqueologia Guarani e Estudos da Paisagem" in FCT/UNESP.
