Abstract

This project aims to understand and analyze the landscapes of the area of eight archaeological sites, as well as the operational chains of production of lithic and ceramic collections related to prehistoric indigenous occupations in the city of Iepê, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Two out of eight selected sites are from hunter-gatherer group and the six others from Guarani group. The study will be developed in an interdisciplinary perspective, involving assumptions of Archaeology and Geography. For the recognition of the natural environment, field work will be carried out by means of which we will intend to identify lithological resources, clay deposits, the flora, fauna and hydrography. Aiming the contextualization of the sites in the geographic space, aerial photos and the contributions of Ethno-History and the Archaeology of Paranapanema River Valley will be used as well. The study of archaeological materials aims to identify the operational chains of its production, through the attributes of the collections to be analyzed. The analysis of the landscape, which combines physical environment and culture aspects, aims to contribute to the knowledge of the settlement pattern and of the Regional Systems of Indigenous Occupation in Paranapanema River Valley. The systematization of data from this survey will be conducted from Geographic Information System software (GIS), ArcGIS, and its results reported to the community in the form of workshops, lectures and texts. The development of this research at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar will favor the consolidation of the Research Line "Heritage and Landscape", of GADIS (Environmental and Dynamic Socio-Spatial Management), linked to the Graduate Program in Geography of FCT / UNESP, in addition to promoting the exchange of experiences and partnerships and research.
