Abstract

The six-minute walk test (6mwt) is commonly used for evaluation of functional capacity in children and adolescents healthy eutrophic and chronically ill, but there is no reference values for use in the paediatric population overweight. Objective: to establish the reference equation to predict the six-minute walk distance in obese children and adolescents and test its reproducibility. Method: will be evaluated 180 individuals from Obesity in Adolescent outpatient clinic of the University Nove of Julho (UNINOVE), with age between 6 and 18 years, of both genders, without a history of cardiorespiratory diseases, neuromuscular or musculoskeletal. In a visit will be held the spirometry and two TC6 (30 minutes of rest in between). Heart rate and pulse oxygen saturation shall be measured continuously. Blood pressure and the sensation of dyspnoea and fatigue in the lower limbs will be registered at the beginning and at the end of the tests. Expected results: the prediction equation derived from this study can be used as a reference to interpret the performance on the 6mwt in obese children and adolescents. (AU)
