Abstract

The research project aims to develop a critical study of the production of contemporary Brazilian architecture, related and compared to Latin American, through the selection and analysis of architectural works focused on the cultural area. By building a broad overview of the current production, the study will seek to reveal the characteristics of the national and Latin American architecture by structuring an interpretation of its relations with the socio-economic, urban, cultural and technological realities in the countries analyzed. The thematic scope is due to the consideration that buildings designed for cultural use can materialize customs and idiosyncrasies through the architectural language, and often expose more clearly speeches and thoughts, revealing the interpretation that the authors make of the architecture as a cultural fact. Thus, these works usually have great impact on the existing environment, establishing strong relationships with the landscape and the urban dynamics, and presents themselves as discourses on the degree of evolution of technique and technology of the country where they are located. Will be object of study works designed by Brazilian architects in the country or abroad, and built in Brazil, by domestic and foreign architects, from 2000 onwards, seeking to relate them to works and projects developed in other Latin American countries. The research is part of the studies already carried out by ODALC (Observatorio de Arquitectura Latinoamericana Contemporánea) a tri-national group that studies the contemporary production, formed by researchers from Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, and the research group Architecture and Modern and Contemporary City, carried out by FAU-USP.
